Sean Bryan and Tom Murphy were named Co-Chief Creative Officers of McCann Erickson New York in June 2012, with responsibility for the creative portfolio of McCann’s flagship and single largest office. The promotion was in recognition of the smart, innovative, and consistently high performing creative campaigns the award-winning team has created since joining McCann New York in 2005.

The move followed the announcement that Linus Karlsson and Andreas Dahlqvist were promoted to expanded global creative leadership positions. Karlsson was named Chairman of McCann’s global Creative Leadership Collective and Chief Creative Officer, Global Brands. Dahlqvist was named Deputy Chief Creative Officer, Global Brands.

“Andreas and I have watched Sean and Tom grow into smart, natural leaders and it feels great to be able to elevate proven talent from within the organization,” said Karlsson. “New York is the global flagship for the network, but it’s also the largest office in North America and has an enviable mix of global and national clients. This promotion will allow Andreas and me to focus globally and Sean and Tom to focus on New York.”

Most recently, Bryan and Murphy have had primary responsibility for the agency’s Verizon business, including FiOS and Verizon Wireless Small Business, which they continue to spearhead. Their recent FiOS spot, “Vision,” was immediately copied, parodied and viralized. They were also major players in McCann New York’s long-running tenure on the Verizon Wireless campaign, and were group creative directors on such classics as the “Dead Zone” spots and the “Suzie’s Lemonade Stand” campaign for VZW Small Business.

Additionally, they served as executive creative directors on the GM spot for the Sonic brand, “Joy,” that aired on Super Bowl Sunday 2012 and was named to a number of Super Bowl best-of lists. They were also group creative directors on the Sony Mobile Xperia Play smartphone campaign, which included a number of globally recognized TV spots, including “Made Of Imagination,” a fantastic tour through the mind of an eight-year-old directed by film auteur Wes Anderson; “Surgeon,” the introductory spot, a “Bladerunner”-ish tour-de-force that ends with a surprise involving a pair of severed thumbs; and a bizarre and hilarious series of web films starring film + TV star Kristen Schaal.

Sean and Tom have been creative partners for over a decade. Prior to joining McCann, Sean (copy) and Tom (art) were Creative Directors at DDB, where they worked together on an array of businesses, including Bud Light and, and helped launch the McDonald’s “I’m Loving It” campaign.


Tom and Sean are also the co-authors of the children’s books A Girl and Her Gator, A Boy and His Bunny, and A Bear and His Boy.
